Mariposa, 2020 exhibited at Peak, located inside Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre, was part of Distant Peak, a series of exhibitions which took place months before the long announced closing and demolishing of the Shopping Centre home to mainly Colombian owned businesses, who have now been relocated in the area. The shopping centre was also a community hub for latin American immigrants in London since its opening in 1965. http://peak-art.org/posts/distant-peak/
Moneda/Currency, 2020, a series of Mexican Peso coins that I hand carried to into the UK, placed on the beauty salon counter left behind from a previous business inside the gallery, which Peak had left inside the space for the duration the gallery was located in this property.
Bienvenida/Welcome, 2020, a welcome mat with a black and white image of the Union Jack purchased from Magic Carpets, a carpet shop inside the Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre, installed behind the gallery’s front door.
Mariposa/Butterfly, 2020, HD video, 1:49 min loop
Mariposa/Butterfly, 2020, consists of a video of a Small White butterfly or Cabbage White, flying around inside my apartment's kitchen projected sideways onto a temporary-built wall inside the gallery. This species, a natural to Mediterranean Europe spread to Eurasia, North Africa, North America, New Zealand and Australia through the development of human trade routes and the diversification of cabbage crops.
